Drug and Alcohol Testing in the Workplace
The misuse of drugs and alcohol can have a major impact on workplace safety and productivity, slowing reaction times and impairing judgment.

Drug and alcohol testing in the workplace is an increasingly topical issue, with more and more employers looking to introduce it into their workplaces. The number of on-site workplace drug and alcohol testing nearly doubled last year, according to the NZ Drug Detection Agency.

While employers have the ability to require employees to undergo drug and alcohol testing, the Courts have emphasised that drug and alcohol policies must be carefully developed, implemented and conducted in accordance with the law otherwise the testing will be unjustified and give rise to potential legal claims.
